Class Objectives (The Five “C’s”)
  • Students will learn to communicate in the French language.
  • Students will discover other cultures and communities outside of their own.
  • Student will make connections to other academic subjects and compare what they learn to their own life situation.

Class Expectations:
#1 Rule: Always do your best, never less.
#2 Rule: Follow the SJHS expectations which include:

  • Be positive and respectful.
  • Be responsible and prepared.


Class Materials:
  • “Discovering French” Textbook and Workbook
  • 1" 3 ring binder with loose leaf notebook paper
  • 5 tab dividers with labels: Vocabulary, Notes, Practice, Worksheets, Other
  • Pencil or pen (blue or black ink only)
  • French-English dictionary for home use *recommended, not required

Class Procedures:
Assignments should be turned in on time into the proper tray at the student center unless an arrangement has been made with the teacher ahead of time. Assignments not turned in on the due date will receive half credit in the grade book.

If a student has an excused absence, he/she may make-up missed assignments, which will be listed on the “assignment calendar” on the day they were assigned. A student has as many days as they were absent to make-up their work.

Grades will be updated throughout the year on Progress Book. Both parents and students will have access to the grades.
